HTML 4 u Tag
Also see HTML5 <u>
Tag.
This page is for the HTML 4 version of this element. For a more up to date version, see HTML5 <u>
Tag.
In HTML 4, the <u>
tag is used for rendering underlined text.
The <u>
tag is deprecated in HTML 4.01 and was originally obsolete in HTML 5. However, it has since been re-introduced to the HTML5 specification as a valid HTML5 element.
Although this tag as been re-introduced to HTML5, it has a slightly different meaning in HTML5. Having said this, most browsers still render the <u>
element with an underline, and as such, you should avoid using it where it could be confused for a hyperlink.
Also see the CSS text-decoration property for more options on underlining text.
