About domain names

The demand for domain names is incredible! In particular demand are .COM names. It has become so difficult to find a good available domain name, that some clever entrepeneurs are inventing a word for their domain name, and then naming their business after their domain name! (hence quackit.com...!)

Money
Domain names are fetching big bucks for individuals whose initial investment was a mere $35 per year registration. Business.com recently sold for $7.5 million. The most valuable ones are .COM names. These are the ones that companies can proudly say, "we've been here for a long time!". Plus, most people remember the first part of the domain name and just assume that it's a .COM to finish. Actually, studies have shown that people often type in a word, then add .COM in an attempt to find a good site (if you haven't done this, you should try it!).

.NET names are also selling for large amounts. They can get perhaps 20% of their .COM counterparts. This might sound small, but imagine if a .COM sold for $1 million. According to this formula, the corresponding .NET domain name would be worth $200,000. Remember that these are just generalizations, many other factors come into it.

More Money
.COM names aren't the only ones to be bringing in the cash. .CC names are starting to fetch very large amounts too. .CC domain names are already starting to prove themselves in the market too (beauty.cc recently sold for $1 million). The great thing about .CC domain names is that there are still plenty of good ones available. The same can be said about .WS names.

People are starting to adjust to the fact that there's much more than just .COM. This isn't surprising when you think about how fast the web is growing, and how fast domain names are being registered. And remember, the web is still way in it's infacy!
